Things To Do in Central Texas

Texas has a lot to offer. I mean, the whole state is almost 300,000 square miles (according to Google), so you’d think there’d be a lot to see and do. We’ve got beaches on the Gulf coast, Big Bend in the West, those giant forests in the Northeast… But I gotta say, for a real Texas experience it’s pretty hard to beat our little neck of the woods here in the Central Texas Hill Country.

Boldheart farms is located just outside of a little bitty town called McMahan. McMahan is only about 35 miles from Austin and about 70 miles from San Antonio. We’re even closer to San Marcos, New Braunfels, and Lockhart. There are so many fun things to do within an hour’s drive of us!

Love live music? Take a trip up to Austin in the evening – you’ll find bands playing just about everywhere you look. If you brought your boots, check out the Broken Spoke for some Texas two-steppin’. You’ll see why Austin calls itself the Live Music Capital of the World. Go ahead and book now and make us your headquarters for South by Southwest festival in March and/or the Austin City Limits Music Festival in October. We’re also very close to Texas’ oldest and most legendary dance hall, Gruene Hall in New Braunfels. We’re about as close to Old Settler’s Music Festival as you can get while still getting a good night’s sleep!

Looking for a good meal? Well, look no further than our neighbor to the west, Lockhart – the barbecue capital of Texas (and therefore, by default, of the world). Or maybe you want something a little more, um, elegant than barbecue… Lockhart Bistro is well worth a visit and Austin’s got some amazing, world-class restaurants, from Uchi for sushi to Fonda San Miguel for gourmet Mexican, and just about everything in between.

Maybe outdoor adventures are your thing? We’re a short drive away from a whole bunch of state parks, including Enchanted Rock and Pedernales Falls. If you haven’t gone swimming in any of the natural pools fed by Edwards Aquifer, you’re missing out! Hamilton Pool is a favorite spot to cool down on a hot summer day. Hill Country Lavender Farm is another lovely spot to visit, especially in the spring time.

We just had a couple stay out here for a Formula 1 Race of the Americas Circuit event. After the noise of the race they sure appreciated their peaceful cottage!

I could go on and on… For more ideas of things you can do just a short drive away from us, check out this article from Lonely Planet about things to do in Central Texas.

All this talk about things to do has got me a bit worn out! When it’s time to relax… we’ve definitely got you covered there! Both of our cottages feature porches where you can just sit and while away an evening. We’ve got wildlife to view out here and gorgeous sunsets. See my post here about our lovely night skies. And of course once you’re tuckered out from all your adventures, you can rest and relax with your better half in your super comfy queen sized bed. And you don’t have to worry about breakfast. I’ve got you covered there!
